ATLANTIC BROADBAND INVESTING $6.3 MILLION IN GREATER MIAMI INFRASTRUCTURE TO DELIVER SIGNIFICANT SERVICE ENHANCEMENTS
THROUGH “FASTFORWARD MIAMI” INITIATIVE, RESIDENTIAL AND BUSINESS CUSTOMERS TO BENEFIT FROM DELIVERY OF GIGABIT SPEEDS, MORE CHANNELS, AND BETTER RELIABILITY
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., July 12, 2016 – Atlantic Broadband, the nation's 9th largest cable operator, today announced its $6.3 million “FastForward Miami” initiative which will bring significant network infrastructure and service enhancements to residents and businesses in Miami Beach and surrounding areas including Aventura, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Golden Beach, North Bay Village, Pinecrest, South Miami, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, plus Brickell, the Biscayne corridor, and downtown Miami.
When complete, Atlantic Broadband’s “FastForward Miami” initiative will deliver:
- Doubling of top Internet speeds to 250 Mbps, ultimately enabling the wide-scale availability of Gigabit Internet service
- Addition of 58 Standard Definition (SD) and/or High Definition (HD) channels – bringing the total channel count to over 400
- Significantly more Spanish language and international channels to meet the needs of its culturally diverse residents
- Enhanced digital picture quality and sound
- Availability of a simple yet powerful on-screen guide on all TV sets
As part of this initiative, Atlantic Broadband has begun a multi-year, phased effort to build fiber deeper into its network. In addition to delivering increased network capacity and redundancy, this will improve reliability and reduce time to repair in the event of damage from storms or accidents. Phase 1 of this initiative, focused on the southern and northern portions of the system, began in early 2016 and is expected to be complete before the end of August. Phase 2 will begin in the fall of 2016.
“This project is a continuation of our commitment to maintain a state-of-the-art network in Miami,” said Atlantic Broadband’s Southern region Senior Vice President and General Manager, Dave Keefe. “FastForward Miami will bring tangible benefits to our customers – widely available Gigabit Internet, more channels, and improved reliability.”
