COGECO CONNEXION UNVEILS THE LARGEST FREE PUBLIC WI-FI NETWORK IN THE HALTON REGION
400 Hotspots in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Georgetown
Montréal, February 17, 2016 – Cogeco Connexion is pleased to unveil a free wireless Internet network of close to 400 hotspots across Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Georgetown – the largest public Wi-Fi network in the Halton region. Over the past few years, Cogeco Connexion has been strategically building its public Wi-Fi network, setting up hotspots indoors and outdoors in core areas of these four cities. The network, which was largely built by leveraging Cogeco Connexion’s business customers, covers different types of locations such as retail shops, restaurants and professional services offices. Hotspots have also been installed in several outdoor public places, such as Millcroft Park in Burlington, Oakville Town Square, John Street Park in Georgetown and near the Milton Fair Grounds.
“Today’s consumers want to stay constantly connected to their world, at home and on the go, and they are looking for a reliable Wi-Fi experience,” states Daniel Boisvert, Vice President, Marketing and Innovation, Cogeco Connexion. “A study shows that Wi-Fi is dominating when it comes to monthly data usage on mobile devices, representing up to 82% of the data consumed[1]. As such, we are very proud to have implemented the most significant public Wi-Fi network in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Georgetown, and to offer unlimited access to our Cogeco Internet clients outside their home, while they are shopping or strolling in those various hotspot zones.”
Any Cogeco high-speed Internet customer can connect for free to a Cogeco hotspot with any Wi-Fi-enabled device by signing-in with their “My Account” credentials. After signing-in once, their device will automatically be connected to the Cogeco Wi-Fi network when in the vicinity of a hotspot. Thanks to this unlimited and high-speed connection, Cogeco Connexion’s Internet customers can benefit from a seamless experience even outside their home. They can surf, chat, stream and download content through Cogeco’s Wi-Fi network, with no impact on their personal data cap. Non-customers can log-in as guests to enjoy a free trial of the service.
